About Us
The Block Association
The West 30th Street Block Association is a member-led organization that advocates for the interests of those who live, work, and own businesses in the West 30th Street area of Manhattan. We are a grassroots, proactive community group dedicated to quality of life, block beautification, public safety, and community building issues. The Association serves as the liaison between the community and city agencies, elected officials, historic preservation groups, local BIDs, businesses, institutions, and local first responders. It works with residents to make sure neighborhood concerns are addressed.
What We Do
Quality of Life
In our role as protectors of the quality of life of our community, we actively address a range of neighborhood concerns including homelessness, traffic congestion, noise pollution, street lighting, nightlife issues, and more. The Block Association has developed important relationships with City agencies, Community Boards, and elected officials. It is the strength of these long-standing relationships that have made us such effective advocates for a range of Quality of Life concerns in the community. We are problem solvers and are often the first call that our neighbors make when issues arise.
Block Beautification
The Block Association works with city agencies to increase regular street cleanings and expand green spaces, including planters and tree beds. We also work with local businesses to increase awareness on sidewalk cleaning and common space beautification. Our goal is to make our neighborhood as welcoming as possible.
Public Safety
In order to maintain the safety and security of the neighborhood, the Block Association fosters a close working partnership with the NYPD – serving as a vital link between the department and the community. We are partners of the Neighborhood Coordination Officers (NCO) team, who are key local crimefighters. We also partner with the NYPD precincts located on West 30th Street.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Part of being in a close-knit community is taking care of neighbors in need, and this is an important mission of the Block Association. Working with partners in local community service agencies, we get to know and provide support to individuals who need support in our community.
Neighbors Getting to Know Neighbors
Being part of a Block Association means not just residents getting to know other residents, but to also getting to know business owners and building owners in the neighborhood. Fostering good dialogue amongst all community stakeholders helps us work together to build a better block for everyone.
